Jeff Ashton has played tournament chess for approximately seven years. He went from having a beginners rating to becoming a United States Chess Federation Master in four years.  Jeff Ashton has traveled all over the U.S. and Europe to play in tournaments

NM Jeff Ashton's List of Chess Accomplishments

  • Two-time Michigan Junior Chess Champion

  • Winner of the 1999 National High School Blitz Championship, held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
  • Received a 2285 FIDE performance rating at the 1997 Groningen Open International Chess tournament, held in Groningen, Netherlands.
  • Michigan representative for the 1998 Arnold Denker High School tournament of champions, held in Kona, Hawaii.
  • The University of Texas at Dallas offered him a full ride scholarship to play for their chess team.
  • In 2001, the University of Texas at Dallas won 1st place in the Pan-American University Team Championship, beating teams such as Harvard, Berkeley, University of Chicago, and teams of Canada and South America. Jeff Ashton won all six of his games, winning a 1st place board prize.
  • Jeff Ashton has several years of experience training private students. He has also taught at chess camps in Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Texas.
  • Jeff Ashton dedicates a great deal of his time training private students in the Dallas area. He is currently involved in working with different elementary school chess programs.
